Mississippi’s Voter ID law will be in effect for the June 3 primary elections, according to Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, and he has dispatched field officials across the state to spread the word. Beginning with the June 3 Primary election, individuals voting at the polls will be required to show a photo ID.

Individuals voting in person by absentee ballot in the primary election inside their County Circuit Clerk’s Office before June 3, 2014, will also be required to show a photo ID. This will be the first time that you have to show an ID at the polls, but if you don’t have one there are 10 forms of ID that will suffice.

Any of the following photo IDs may be used at the polls:
• A driver’s license
• A photo ID issued by a branch, department or entity of the State of Mississippi
• A United States passport
• A government employee ID card
• A student ID issued by an accredited Mississippi university, college or community or junior college
• A United States Military ID
• A tribal photo ID
• Any other photo ID issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the United States government or any other State government
• A Mississippi Voter Identification card

In addition,  a voter may use an expired photo ID on Election Day provided it is not more than 10 years old. The expired ID must contain the name and photograph of the voter, and have been validly issued by the federal or a state government.

Rides can be arranged for anyone still in need of a photo ID.

Polls will be open on June 3 from 7am to 7pm.   And remember, Super Tuesday Elections will be coming in November, and if you missed out voting in June due to not registering in time, you have time now to register for the Nov. elections.
