(Starkville, MS) Disability Rights Mississippi (DRMS), located in Jackson, MS, is pleased to announce that it is a recipient of an Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Program grant. Through this award DRMS will provide representation to students with disabilities throughout north Mississippi on critical issues involving their right to a free appropriate public education. Students must meet certain criteria to obtain services through DRMS. Sue Cannimore, a Senior Advocate at DRMS, will direct the project under the supervision of DRMS Attorney Wendell Hutchinson.
DRMS has been providing federally mandated protection and advocacy services to people with disabilities throughout Mississippi since 1982. The agency seeks to continue its mission with this IOLTA grant through the MS Bar Foundation, thus increasing their presence in the northern region of the state. In order to fulfill this program, DRMS has hired Eric Martin, doctoral student at MSU, who will serve as the Education Advocate for DRMS’ north Mississippi clients.
