Disability Rights Mississippi has an immediate opening for a full-time attorney located in our Jackson office.

Position Title:  Children’s Rights Attorney

Reports to:  Legal Director

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Mission:  To protect and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, specifically children under the age of 21.

Essential Functions

  1. Supervise the work of the Children’s Rights Team and its members.
  2. Represent clients in Due Process hearings, OCR Mediation, Title IX Proceedings, etc.
  3. Prepare documents for legal remedies. 
  4. Do legal research on topics concerning rights of children with disabilities.
  5. Handle individual cases according to agency priorities.
  6. Develop systemic projects for the Children’s Rights Team.
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned.


  1. Law degree from an accredited law school and a member of Mississippi State Bar who is admitted to practice before Mississippi State and Federal Courts
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  3. Ability to work cooperatively with all staff
  4. Detail oriented and well organized
  5. Ability to handle multiple projects
